AMICCOM launches A7131, a 2.4GHz high speed 10dBm TRX

AMICCOM is a professional RFIC design house located in Taiwan. In June, 2012, we launch a 2.4GHz TRX called A7131. This device is an enhanced version of A7130 because of the bigger TX power up to 10 dBm. Hence, its wireless range, where the field test reaches 100 meters on the street and up to 150 meters in the open space, is double of A7130.

A7131 is a high speed TRX up to 4Mbps data rate in FSK /GFSK modulation. A7131 can be accessed by MCU via SPI interface for 64 bytes FIFO read/write as well as RF operation modes which is compliant to A7130.

The advantages to go with A7131 are high speed data rate (4Mbps) and high efficiency PA (10dBm @35mA). A7131 is suitable to diversity applications like HiFi quality wireless speaker (earphone), 2.4GHz baby monitor (wireless video streaming), home security, wireless video of vehicle parking, wireless remote controllers, wireless toys and wireless sensor networking. To get started for those applications, AMICCOM offers users MCU reference code and a referenced RF module called MD7131-A01 which is compliant to the global EMC regulations of FCC part 15.247 and CE ETSI EN300-440.

Related to RF performance, MD7131-A01 is implemented with a PCB antenna. At 4Mbps operation, A7131 has a very good link budget (98dB) by high receiver sensitivity (-88dBm) and an em-PA(10dBm). The additional feature such as 8-bit ADC to measure RSSI can assist clean channel identification. FW engineer can use it to implement Listen-Before-Talk scheme to avoid the pocket collision. The unique VCO calibration mechanism inside A7131 can compensate process vibrations during CMOS manufacturing to operate steadily under different environmental conditions.

For data streaming, A7131 supports AES128 packet encryption /decryption, Manchester encode/decode, pocket error correction (FEC and CRC). For communication protocol, this device also supports Auto-ack and Auto-resend scheme to reduce software loading. For power management, A7131 supports Deep sleep mode (100 nA), Sleep mode, Idle mode and WOR (Wake On RX) which supports periodically Sleep to RX mode to listen incoming packets without MCU interaction to extend battery lifetime. Overall, A7131 is very easy-to-use and support to simplify system development time and cost.
